Firefly Hedges is flower farm providing flower subscriptions fresh
from our farm in Albany Indiana.
WHY LOCALLY GROWN FLOWERS?
About 65% of the flowers of the flowers sold in the US are imported. Another 27% of the flowers sold in the US are grown in California.
All the travel & distribution time leaves florist with less time to utilize & sell fresh flowers. Florists end up losing 40% of their
flowers before they can be sold. Almost 80% of the US imported flowers are grown in Columbia using any chemical methods they can to
provide cheap flowers for expensive shipping to the US. Long shipping distances also limits the flowers available to consumers to those
flowers hardy enough to handle the rough ride. The remaining 8% of our flowers are grown by small flower farms throughout the US.
These local farms provide unique flowers too delicate to travel far and the wonderful fragrances lost to many modern varieties.
These small farms supply florists, weddings, local grocers, and local consumers with a much wider selection of high-quality flowers.
Locally grown flowers reach florists and consumers within a day of their cutting, allowing for more time to sell & avoid wasting dead flowers.
OUR BOUQUET SUBSCRIPTIONS.
Your interest in Firefly Hedges 2020 Cut Flower Subscriptions is greatly appreciated.
CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) are a foundational piece of “growing” strong local small farms, not only for fresh food, but for fresh
seasonal cut flowers. Becoming a part of a CSA with a subscription helps the local grower in the
winter when necessary preparation expenses are high. Through the winter farmers are just as busy prepping grounds, buying seed, planning &
seeding in heated greenhouses.
Bouquet harvesting begins around the second week of June and into mid-October until a killing frost. We are currently planning over two dozen
different flowers and even more when it comes to different varieties. The subscription bouquets
are our $20 bouquet. These bouquets will differ in stem numbers depending on the flowers blooming but will always make a grand display. Some
of the flowers will last longer than a week, keeping them to add to your next bouquet arrival is a great advantage of locally grown quality flowers.
